(Not) Just for Parents

Parents play a critical role in providing these essential needs for children: love, understanding, support, and hope. Children with learning differences often face conflict, frustration, confusion, and misunderstanding. Many have a particular need to know they have special qualities, that they can succeed, that they do not have to face the world alone, that their parents will not give up on them, and that they will amount to something in the future.

How can you support your child and address these essential needs?
Here are five things you can begin to do today:

1. Discover how your child learns

2. Provide many opportunities for your child to succeed

3. Encourage your child to use and develop language skills at home

4. Practice organizational skills at home

5. Learn advocacy skills
